Five examples of storage devices

1. Random Access Memory

The Random Access Memory is used for storing information temporarily. When the computer is switched off, the information on the RAM is wiped off. The access rate of RAM is much higher. They are more expensive than the other types of primary storage devices.

2. Read Only Memory
It is used to permanently store data. Data can be stored on ROM, either      when the computer is been manufactured or by the computer user. However, the disadvantage of this type of memory is that the data stored on ROM cannot be changed. The access rate necessary to get to the memory is much lesser as compared to the access rate of the RAM. Unlike the RAM’s, ROM’s are not expensive.

3. Hard Drives
The hard drive are one of the most important of the secondary types of computer data storage device, the hard drive device Data is stored on the hard drives in the digital format on the hard drives. In the initial days of the computers, hard disks were like removable mass storage devices. However, with time they started coming as a part of the central processing unit of the computer. However, now there are external hard drive available as well.

4. Memory Cards
The next of the computer storage devices examples are the memory cards. Data is stored in digital format on the memory cards. They can be used in various electronic devices from hand held computers, mobile phones, cameras, etc. They are also rewritable. Although they are small in size, they can store a high amount of data.

5. Flash Memory

With a lot of research came the flash memory. This storage devices for a computer is similar to the read only memory. However, there is a big difference between the flash memory and the ROM. Data from the flash memory can be erased in a matter of few seconds from the flash drives, which is not the case with the ROM’s. At the same time, the data can be changed as per the requirement.

Five examples of output devices

1. Monitor
The most common computer output device is the monitor or computer screen. Monitors create a visual display from processed data that users can view. They come in a variety of screen sizes and visual resolutions.
There are two types of computer monitors, CRT and flat panel. CRT monitors use phosphorescent dots to create the pixels that make up display images. Flat panel monitors usually use LCD or plasma to create output. Light is passed through liquid crystals to create the pixels.
All monitors rely on a video card that is located on the computer motherboard or in a special expansion slot. The video card processes the computer data into image details that the monitors can display.

2.Speakers

  •   Computers produce audio data that require output devices such as speakers and headphones to deliver the sound to the user. Audio data is created by the computer and then sent to the audio card, which is located in an expansion slot. The card translates the data into audio signals, which are sent to the audio output device.

  • 3.Printer

  • Printers produce a hard copy version of processed data such as documents and photographs. The computer sends the image data to the printer, which then physically recreates the image onto an object.
There are three types of computer printers: ink jet, laser and dot matrix. Inkjet printers spray tiny dots of ink on a surface to create an image. Laser printers use toner drums that roll through magnetized pigment and then transfer the pigment to a surface. Dot matrix printers use a print head to imbed images on a surface, using an ink ribbon.

  • 4.Projector

  • Projectors are display devices that project a computer created image. The computer sends the image data to the video card which then sends the video image to the projector. They are typically used for presentations or for viewing videos

  •  5. Plotter

A plotter is a computer printing design for printing  vector graphics. In the past, plotters were widely used in applications such as computer aided design, though they have generally been replaced with wide-format conventional printers, and it is now commonplace to refer to such wide-format printers as "plotters," even though they technically aren't.

    Five examples of input devices

                                                                                     1. Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a specification to establish communication between devices and a host controller (usually personal computers), developed and invented by AjayBhatt while working for Intel .USB has effectively replaced a variety of interfaces such as serial and parallel ports

    2. In computing, a mouse is a pointing device that functions by detecting two- dimentional motion relative to its supporting surface. Physically, a mouse consists of an object held under one of the user's hands, with one or more buttons.

3 . A keyboard is typewriter which uses an arrangement of buttons or keys to act as mechanical levers or electronic switches. After punch cards and paper tape, interaction via teletype-style keyboards became the main input device for computers.

    4.  A device containing a transducer for converting sound waves into electrical signals that can then be amplified, transmitted, and output through a speaker.

                                                                                                                 5.   A webcam is a video camera which feeds its images in real time to a computer or computer network, often via USB, Enthernet or Wi-Fi.Their most popular use is the establishment of video links, permitting computers to act as videophones or video conference stations This common use as a camera for the web gives the webcam its name.

    lynie

My expectation in the subject is to gain more knowledge of all basic information about computer. I know it's not an easy one, but, I hope I can manage to do it well with the eagerness in the deepest part of my heart to be more  acquainted to the computer.

I hope also that our instructor Mark Van Buladaco would not be so thrifty in giving of grades to his class. But I also believe that it is depend to the student if he or she worth it.
